April Astrology

Aries: March 20 – April 19

We cannot change the planets and stars from their courses but neither are we meant to be guided by fearful projections upon them. For the first two weeks of April inspect your fears: Who or what controls you? What does the future hold? What could go wrong in the present? As you sort, remember you are taking inventory of your mind. All of these perceived fears exist in your mind. It’s as if you are reading the book or watching the movie called, What Scares Me Most. Once you have completed this task go for a long walk in the rain. Then, on a clear night sometime between the 17th – 22nd, look up at the night sky and count yourself grateful to have the moon overhead – the same moon that looks down on all the peoples of the planet no matter what glorious or nefarious deeds they are up to. It’s your world. Open yourself to it.

Taurus: April 20 – May 20

You’ve never been more attuned to the wisdom and promise of life on earth than you are now. If you’re old enough, maybe the 60s was a time of such power but that was then. As you live through your days from the 3rd – 16th participating in both small and great endeavours, catch yourself in the act of doing one thing and thinking another. From the 17th it’s easier to be fully present to the task at hand. Radical, earthy brilliance emanates from your capable being from the 18th - 22nd. Earth Day is a Taurus celebration. It’s about the fact that we live here physically and therefore we must participate in present time. What good does it do us to hold our nose in the present as we envision the sweet smells of the future? Put ideals to work in the body of Mother Earth from the 24th – 29th. Let your reward be something fleeting and sweet.

Gemini: May 21 – June 20

The world is a marketplace – or is it? Is everything for sale? More to the point: are you? Ask yourself what you would do for a million bucks. From the 3rd be advised to step back from anything that’s too good to be true. By the 18th this issue calms considerably. The snake-oil sellers have retreated and the time is right to feather your nest. It’s spring after all and you live your life right where you are. Make it some place you want to be. Love your planet on the 22nd. Witness a miracle on the 28th when you watch a seed sprout. Give whacko, obsessive friends the slip on the 24th. It’s not good for you or them if you get involved in their nightmare.

Cancer: June 21 – July 21

It’s a tug-of-war; everyone pulling with equal strength for their own interest. There is you: vital, edgy and confident. There is the other person: power based and manipulative. Tempers flare and not much is achieved between the 3rd –13th unless someone is willing to put duty before personal gain. A good friend, skilled in conflict resolution, shows you how you and your adversary want the same things. Except for a flare-up around the 23rd, it appears that all conflict resolves by the 28th. By then you and your sparring partner can respect that you are well matched. A perfect fit in fact.

Leo: July 22 – August 22

Possibility flares like fireworks on a long weekend in summer. You could travel, go back to school, write, teach and more. All true but only if you are willing to pay your dues. Do not waste your time or anyone else’s on fruitless speculations about things that can never come to pass. Rather make the effort to dream the possible dream from the 2nd – 16th. Results begin to show for all to see on the 18th. Resources are available on the 21st. Someone wants what you’ve got on the 23rd. Don’t sell yourself cheaply. Your stock rises on the 28th. Love is not the issue on the 29th – trust is.

Virgo: August 23 – September 22

In the deep, dark heart of love there is power. Some say that love and power cannot co-exist. Others say that love is the greatest power. Where do you find yourself on the continuum of love and power? Get a good look at this from the 3rd – 13th. Interestingly, frustration is your teacher. On the 18th it is clear you have learned your lesson and are ready to move on. Between the 20th – 22nd celebrate the power of those who survive through adversity and the ones who never give up trying to awaken their fellow humans. You can side-step an argument with a friend on the 24th by practising patience. Love rules on the 28th and you might just be smart enough to know it.

Libra: September 22 – October 22

Did you know that the astrological house of marriage partners is the same as the house of what we call open enemies? It’s not because all marriage ends in divorce. It’s because both of those relationships are with people who challenge us to see who we are to others. Expect challenge this month, especially from the 3rd – 13th and around the 24th. The key, if there is one, lies in knowing where you come from. Do research or spy work from the 18th – 22nd. See what you have learned on the 28th. Share it with those you trust.

Scorpio: October 23 – November 21

This is a world of polarity. There are the woman/man, dark/light, good/evil, sublime/ridiculous polarities for starters. As you race around for the first two weeks of April putting out apparent fires, ask yourself if these eruptions aren’t really polarities simply and impossibly trying to resolve themselves. Your fancy turns to relationship from the 18th. Open yourself to the voice of love and the promise of renewal which spring offers. Your significant other holds up a mirror that you may see yourself reflected. And you, of course do the same. Friends or siblings who have been difficult are easier to deal with from the 20th – 28th. If you are feeling singular and friendless, read the poem Wild Geese by Mary Oliver. It’s your world.

Sagittarius: November 22 – December 20

Love turns ice to water. It melts us where we are frozen. Love gone bad turns sweetness to bitter and disturbs the mind. Despite the distinct discomfort you may be feeling, let the ice of disdain melt into the water of love between the 2nd and 13th. Experience the small miracle of bitterness turning sweet because you made the effort from the 18th – 22nd. Feelings erupt all over town around the 23rd and 24th. Be reminded that waves and particles (or do I mean emotions and thoughts?) are one and the same, both and neither. From the 25th – 29th open up to the Big Mind that is both and neither and which contains all that the small mind can generate.

Capricorn: December 21 – January 19

Family members expect you to take charge. If you have a chip on your shoulder from similar but inappropriate expectations of days gone by, it might be hard for you to simply show up and do what has to get done from the 2nd – 13th. Or this could be a perfect opportunity to let go the past, engage fully with the present, and do it all without the old patterns of behaviour. Enjoy life’s simple pleasures from the 18th – 22nd. You are the boss of yourself, therefore it is totally in your power to choose activities that make you happy and enable you to express yourself. Confrontations which feel beneath you are irritating and embarrassing on the 23rd and 24th if you aren’t honest with yourself. Triumph is yours by the 28th.

Aquarius: January 20 – February 17

Does the sun rise or does the earth turn? Do your thoughts create reality or do they arise out of the reality that was already created? Are we really as omnipotent as we think – if only we can work the secret – or would that be some kind of narcissistic fantasy that sidesteps the true nature of reality? Be humble before the mystery of mind at least from the 2nd – 13th and again on the 23rd and 24th. You always do best with beginner’s mind. From the 17th – 22nd spring cleaning is at hand. Remove the cobwebs, bring on the pussy willows and turn over the soil of winter. Renewal is at hand! Everything makes more sense from the 25th.

Pisces: February 18 – March 19

Be bold but not reckless with your investment of time, energy money and love from the 3rd – 13th. Beware the one who says, “Let me help” around the 23rd or 24th and then dumps his needs on you. Wouldn’t be the first time. Otherwise April is the month you say what you mean and mean what you say to the people who matter most. Celebrate freedom for all peoples on the 20th even as you acknowledge and respect the constraints of social interaction that enable freedom to thrive. Life is an endless spinning wheel of checks and balances; the need to maintain balance with eyes wide open.
