29th Annual Organic Conference, Expo & Tasting Fair
The theme for 2010 is “Our Canadian Organic Identity”, which highlights how the organic sector has come of age with its own federal regulation. This reinforces the point that Canadian certified organic products project a strong image for the consumer. The Canadian consumer is becoming educated, motivated, loyal and eager to meet local growers. You can be a key player in building the organic sector by going on a farm tour, taking an apprenticeship and growing your understanding about Canadian agriculture.
At the four-day Guelph conference, growers can learn of opportunities to supply this marketplace — at the New Farmers Forum and at several production workshops (more than 30 programs / weekend). There will be an Organic Dairy Symposium as well as a stimulating Public Forum — Organic Values, Ethics & Consumer Power. The workshops are economically priced, especially if pre-registered. The student-focused Eco-Scholar Program helps the next generation with free entry.
This is Canada's longest running organic marketing event, taking place at the Guelph University Centre, January 28-3 (Expo is two days only - Jan. 30-31). This Saturday-Sunday, two-day, 160-booth Expo/Tasting Fair is free to consumers, students and to all retail shoppers who want to meet organic food suppliers face-to-face. The Expo in the Guelph U.C. will feature up to 35 organic food samplers and sellers. Come prepared — bring carry-bags and cash to spend on organic chocolate, organic cheeses, jams, miso, pickles and vegetables. Also, dozens of other vendors will sell organic books, seeds, garden supplies and memberships to a number of great organic organizations.
